Popsugar Reading Challenge 2024: Prompt Sixteen - "A book set 24 years before you were born"

Although the setting isn’t specifically stated, the novel was released in 1970 (24 years before I was born), so we can all assume it was set around the time of its release. If you disagree, too bad—I’m moving on!

Classics are classics for a reason, and I tend to forget that until I dive into the story itself.

Fantastic Mr. Fox is one of those stories that made me ask myself, “Why was this written?” while I was reading it. And although I am sure there are plenty of underlying political or economic statements Roald Dahl was trying to make, I realized I didn't care when I finished.

Why would I want to blur the lines between a children’s story about foxes trying to eat, and getting their tails shot off while they go about it? It’s just too fun and full of imagination to need to try and ruin it any further. This was a story that I’m going to take at surface level and just enjoy as a spirit-raising, quick read.

123/125 (Revised 2018 Reading Challenge)

Another childhood re-read. Another quick read even to a kid. Dahl’s usual charm & nasty villains. It’s not the best but still good memories of the story when was young. & trying to stop myself from picking it apart after reading some criticism in other reviews. Which I suppose it does have. One review pointed out it was sexist & I read it & was like okay it is. & you could have had a female cast members helping the men. Like Why couldn’t Mr & Mrs Fox kick ass together & both be fantastic?
So yeah it could be improved upon & now I wonder less stars. But I still enjoyed it & did love it as a kid & I guess I don’t want to ruin the rose coloured memories by being overly critical I guess.,

Moral of the story: Stealing is cool as long as it's for a good cause and the people you are stealing from are horrible people. Also if crazy farmers are trying to kill you just live underground for the rest of your life.

This book was entertaining and super short and that's all I've got to say on it lol.
