I am always surprised at how many of my favorite authors cite Lovecraft as an influence. I just don't care for Lovecraft, but this little story is very funny in a British and irreverent way. Yes, it's about Cthulhu, but not seriously. It's really more about bragging and being a boor.

Someone feed that blasted shoggoth.

A very funny and interesting free short story. It has the form of a kind of interview where (oh! the great) Cthulhu reminisces and talks about how it all came to be. For those that are well acquainted with the whole spectrum of Lovecraftian mythos, this story is choke full of references and mentions. Gaiman as usual writes in a style that seems deceptively light, as he sets a very modern tone for the story and great Cthulhu's narration. As a Cthulhu-fan, I enjoyed this short story immensely and seeing as it's free there's no reason for anybody not to read it! Recommended!

Neil Gaiman's satirical take on Cthulhu in the form of The Screwtape Letters. It's simply brilliant...absolutely brilliant...but then again I didn't expect anything less from Neil.

Highly recommended.

Also known as What's A Tentacle-Faced Thing Like Me Doing In A Sunken City Like This (Latitude 47° 9' S, Longitude 126° 43' W)?, I Cthulhu reads like the journal entry (technically a speech to a subordinate) from a powerful being that came to Earth literally in the primordial sludge. And two awesome quotes: "...born of nameless nightmare parents" and "Riot and revel, blood-food and foulness, eternal twilight and nightmare and the screams of the dead and the not-dead and the chant of the faithful."

I don't know what is it with me and Gaiman.
In one story i love his writing and mind in another I can´t stand him.
