This is a masterfully constructed and very compelling book. It kinda got a bit ridiculous in the last quarter, but in an entertaining way. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
Gillian Flynn is one of my all time favourite authors. I gave her other 2 novels five stars and I was so ready to give this one 5 as well. The writing is incredible; this woman writes like no other. It's cohesive but unique and that's partly what reels me in. Second, her characters are alive, dimensional and SO creepy. It's perfect for these kinds of novels. And her plots, they're so well stitched together, the mystery always making sense and the conclusion being clean and exciting.
However, in this novel, I felt the mystery part of it was not all that mysterious. With the small cast of main characters, it couldn't have strayed too far from them and I honestly had figured out something vital on page 5. The ending was still dark and creepy, and I wish Flynn devoted a little more time to it but overall, I loved the experience of reading this book.

So brilliant I don't have enough words to describe it!
This is an immersive, spine-chilling book that thrusts you into a universe where everything seems a bit off but only at the end will you figure out what, exactly, is going wrong.
Immediately you're plunged into Wind Gap, a town so densely contained that it's hard to imagine life outside of it once you've crossed its borders. This slightly creepy Midwestern conglomerate is brimming with gossipy housewives and idle teens and copious booze, and beneath it all, a pulsing string of violence. It was such an interesting setting to read about and the atmosphere is so tangible. It becomes yours, and the protagonist's, entire world.
The characters are richly realized and though it isn't exactly a fast-paced highly plotted sort of thriller, it will definitely keep you on your toes. The way it comes together is so satisfying. One of the best thrillers, and books, I've ever read.

Well, shit.
Anything I could say about what happens in this book will be spoiling it, and that would be tragic.
So I will just say that this book is not a thriller, is a horror story.
Flynn is a master and she uses the first person in a way that cannot be called anything less than genius. She leads the reader in the exact course she wants us to follow. In a way, like a treasure hunt, managing our expectations.
Brilliant.

This is one of the most insane books I've ever read. It's really more of a 3 star book for me, but due the the whole mind-blowing and just.....fucking insanity of these characters and their relationship to each other, I give another star.
Amy and Nick are both insane. In very different ways and to elaborate would get into spoilery territory, but it is like watching a train wreck and you can't look away. I will say, my attention was not grabbed until about the halfway point when we stopped getting Amy's diary entries and actually got her in real time or what have you. That's a bit of a spoiler, I apologize, but if you find yourself bored, get to that point, press on a little more and then decide if you want to call it quits. Cause I am glad I kept reading.
Amy is fucking batshit completely insane in the most perfect way. Watching her, getting into her mind is crazy.
God I can't wait to see what Gillian Flynn comes up with next.

The first half of the book is a slow read, then things get interesting. Delicious to see a complex, conniving, intelligent, female character who gets her revenge. The book keeps you guessing as to how it will end, not with a bang but a whimper (IMHO). Was a fun read!!!
I couldn't put this book down. It was the first book in months that had such an effect on me, and any moment where I was not in a lesson or sleeping, I was reading this book. It's a book where even by the end I wasn't sure if I liked a character or not, and which I hated more. Nick Dunne is a protagonist who almost isn't the protagonist - I detested him for almost the entire book and yet I was still rooting for him. Amy Dunne is an antagonist who I almost sympathised with, even at the end of the book. Every time I thought that I had reached the crux of the book, Gillian Flynn expertly twisted the story and I was taken aback. I absolutely adored this book.
