Some of the prose felt a bit too floral and self-aggrandizing but in general I like Nabokov and it felt nice to recognize many of my favorite places through his eyes and his biography.

Read for school. Very difficult to parse at times but also such a great read. I do not do non fiction but this read like fiction to me which made it a lot nicer on my brain

I would not have picked this up on my own. It was a little dry and confusing at times. There was even a chapter with so many family members listed that my eyes glazed over. Yet, I did learn some interesting things about him, like his obsession with butterflies, chess problems, and that he had synesthesia. Do I want to go on and read his books? Eh. Will this be an interesting book club discussion? Probably.

The man is funny, ironic, whimsical, sarcastic, playful and an absolute genius in setting up and telling a story; in particular highlighting a person's (or character's) idiosyncrasies and tragic/endearing qualities. Time to dust off 'Lolita' again.

Some beautiful imagery and occasional unique humor. Unfortunately I don't enjoy the artsy style of writing as much. Too many adjectives per one noun for my taste. Sometimes it did wonders evoking an image, other times it labored my reading to the point where I lost track of where I was.

His writing is so lovely, with such interesting images! I was struck by how much he hates to sleep and fights against it every night. I guess I should read something of his other than Lolita.
