Still holds up, still terrifying, especially Simon's encounter with the LotF.
Themes or characters that resonated with me: At first I felt like Ralph was not a cool dude, because of how he treated Piggy. It's interesting the way Jack and Ralph went opposite directions on Piggy.
Emotions, thoughts, or memories it brought up in me: It was funny that Crash Course brought up the similar themes between this and Heart of Darkness, that I had concluded on my own. I think over time, the symbolism will become more clear to me. It is tragic that Piggy died the day before they were rescued.
Opinion about the author or writing style: The dialogue was seemingly intentionally hard to follow. Most quotes were not attributed to anyone in particular, if it wasn't relevant. The book and the themes are an easy read. The symbols are pretty blatant. Fear, inner darkness, desire to belong, grasping at civility, etc. The conch and Piggy's glasses representing civilization and both of those items being smashed.
Favorite Passage:
'Fancy thinking the Beast was something you could hunt and kill! said the head. For a moment or two the forest and all other dimly appreciated places echoed with the parody of laughter. 'You knew didn't you? I'm part of you? Close, close, close! I'm the reason why it's no go? Why things are what they are?'

I first read this in the 8th grade, and I am please to report it is just as horrifying now as it was back then. It’s a classic for a reason.
