Objectively bad. So lacking in description and setting it felt like the characters were sitting in the same blank room all along.
Fun if you’re a big fan of the show (like me) and wanted some more content though it’s clear the show made a looootttt of effort to improve this lackluster story.
Cute romance at times but ruined by the toxicity, the assault, and the « you’re my property » talk which was just EWW
Bonus bad : sexual assault is REALLY not cute ! Nor is guilt tripping the victim ms Daphne :)
Yeah : it’s bad
Will I be reading Antony’s book just cause it’s Antony ? Yes, obviously.

-10000000 stars for the SA that is just brushed under the rug like it didn't happen. I understand Daphne's point that Simon needed to let his father go and live his own life, but it definitely didn't need to happen in that way. She has been and remains my least favorite Bridgerton ✌🏻

That being said, now that I'm into it with this series, I still have some hope that the following books keep getting better in quality just like the show does! If anything, I know I'm not experiencing a paragon of literature/historical romance here, but I'm nothing if not nosy, and I want to know what happens to everyone!

I watched the show first which I don’t normally do and overall enjoyed the show better. The scene where Simon is pretty much assaulted really made it difficult to finish the book. It is not Simon’s fault that Daphne misunderstood when he said he can’t have children. And then she completely took advantage of him while he was drunk which was horrific. He tried to give her every out to be in a relationship with someone who wanted children. I’m going to give the second book a try but if it is written like this one I will not be finishing the book series.

I understand that the characters themselves are able to move past the rape scene, however, I found it difficult to brush off in both the book and Netflix series despite their differences.

It’s hard to say whether I preferred the book to the series or not, Daphne and Simon’s trope and characters are not my favourite but i’m excited to follow the rest of the Bridgerton’s stories.

Such a cute and light read. I love the Bridgertons, and I love Simon Bassett.

⭐⭐⭐⭐

This was my second attempt at reading this book; I decided to give the audiobook a try while waiting for the second half of season 4 to be released, and I actually quite enjoyed it!

Simon's character arc was charming and Daphne's growing understanding of the world was well-written and funny at times. There were definitely some gray areas concerning consent in this story, but I think it was done well and in as realistic a fashion as the rest of the book. I was a bit surprised at how Whistledown was portrayed, mostly just through short blurbs at the beginning of chapters and in character dialogue, because she is rather pervasive in the show.

Overall, I rather enjoyed this book, but am unsure if I will continue on with the series, as Regency-era Romance is not in my typical wheelhouse.
