⚠️My loves, beware the TWs⚠️

I don't know how to write this spoiler-free... Ok, so I had to give this 5 stars because The Ripper...what can I say? I'm a sick fuck. 😏 Mallory Fox is a first time author for me and I have to say I love her writing style. I could not put From Hell down! It is, as you could likely guess, violent, chaotic, steamy and darker than an abyss. The MCs had such a magnetic pull and phenomenal chemistry, I drank that shit in!

You need to get and read this book! I demand it!

My monster may believe he’s won, lurking in the shadows, watching, waiting. But soon, very soon, I’ll be the one hunting him.

I was sold on this book when I found out it was based on Jack the Ripper, with the promise of it also being a dark romance. From Hell is a delightful read, but is it wrong that I wished it to have been darker? I craved a book drenched in blood and death, with strong MCs similar to A Violent Agenda’s Viola. The unhinged MMC was almost too likable, and the FMC was a little too naive. Where were the depraved murderers I sought? (To be fair, I have read a ton of DARK romances recently, many delving into the horror category, so my view on dark is skewed to the black).

I loved the way Mallory handled the Jack the Ripper legend, meshing it into a modern setting and giving us the reason behind the murders. I was a massive fan of Jaxon’s dual nature and would have loved to see more of the Ripper’s POV. OTT J/P stalkers are my favorite!

This is a medium-burn with moderate spice MF romance.

Genre: Dark Contemporary Romance
Tropes/Features: Dark elements, Jack the Ripper-based, enemies to lovers, billionaire, secret society, bloody revenge, stalking, serial killers, morally grey, OTT J/P anti-hero, traumatic past, touch her and die
Narrator: Dual 1st Person POV
Relationship Type: MF, medium burn, moderate spice
Book Type/Ending: Standalone with HEA
TW/CW: Available in book

I tried really hard to like this book, but in the end, I just didn’t. I expected it to be entertaining because it’s about a serial killer but I was just confused the whole time. I think the author got confused because they had laine call him Jack but it didn’t make any sense because she didn’t know who he was yet. I also just wanted more from the ending. It felt kind of abrupt.

I received an arc from valentine pr.

What a wild ride this book was! This was my first read by this author and it surely will not be my last — Mallory Fox has a wonderful way of dropping you into a story that packs action, suspense, fun, and of course has some steam.

If you really liked the MindF series and what the overall plot is — I think you’d like this story for the same 𝒗𝒊𝒃𝒆𝒔. Laine is such a wonderful character as she is strong, determined and honestly feels relatable. Jaxon is your “good guy” with a bad side. He really charms everyone he is around even Laine BUT he has dark secrets of his own and we love him for it.

This story starts were we find that many years ago Laine almost died at the hands of The Ripper. After being in hiding for a long time and not hearing from him, all of a sudden he has starts communicating with her. During her time being in hiding, Laine has teamed up with others who are looking to take care of the bad guys and making them pay for the wrongs they have done. This is her getting revenge on the evil people of her past all whilst bringing her closer to The Ripper to get her revenge for what he did to her many years ago.

In enters Jaxon, our morally grey billionaire surgeon — who also is from Laine’s past. He is apart of a secret society and also partakes in his own extra circular activities like Laine does on not so great people. After he finds out what she has been up the both connect the dots and offers to help her. All while keeping secrets of his own past/life still a mystery to Laine. And let’s just say this story had me not able to turn the page fast enough!

This was such a wonderful dark romance that was inspired by Jack the Ripper. Rooting for a morally grey character is always something I love! I enjoyed reading about a strong female lead who out here looking for revenge and getting it. I will also share this book has lots of on page content so please check out the authors content warnings prior to jumping in!

I received advanced reader copy from the author and Valentine PR - thank you!

From Hell is the first book in a new series by Mallory Fox, this book features an enemies to lovers, serial killer duo that is sure to keep your heart racing as the chapters go on. This was my first book by the author and while I will read the next book, this just didn’t completely hit for me. I enjoyed the authors writing style, but I felt some parts were inconsistent with the FMC’s revenge plan and didn’t quite understand her attraction to the MMC. Overall I hoped for a bit more romance, Jaxon’s character honestly gave me whip lash, and I guessed the big reveal by the second chapter. I think this is a 5 star read for someone else but, for me it just missed the mark so I opted for 3 stars. Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for this E-ARC
