The writing is 5 stars - obviously - but I had to knock off a star because this is mostly extracts from her novels, which I found disappointing. They were hard to follow as separate extracts, and just wasn't what I wanted from this book. There is a short story and short essay at the end though which I haven't come across before, and they were fantastic.

Part of the Penguin Random House “Vintage Minis” series. Gives a short introduction to the work of Toni Morrison.
Worthwhile alone for “Making America White Again, An Essay”, which is very pertinent at present. Also, includes selections from the author’s works: Song of Solomon; The Bluest Eye; Beloved.
I also enjoyed the short story “Recitatif”.
Certainly will be looking to read more of Morrison’s work.

A selection of passages from Toni Morrison's works on the topic of Race. The passages are well seletected but are isolated, there is no commentary to accompany them which I would have enjoyed. However, if you are a fan of Toni Morrison it's a lovely edition to her collection of works!
