If you like to read books, you'll enjoy this memoir by the accomplished editor at Knopf and The New Yorker. The workload Gottlieb talks about seems staggering for most, yet he describes it as simply reading, sometimes with a pencil in hand. (I had forgotten he is Robert Caro's editor, and also hope we see the 5th Lyndon Johnson biography soon.) Besides books, Gottlieb writes about his involvement with ballet companies, his collecting of 1950's/1960's plastic purses, and even a little about his family. A thoroughly enjoyable book. (If you want my copy, you'll have to look on the shelves at Walnut Lawn Bed and Breakfast in Lancaster, PA, because I'm desperate to lighten at least one suitcase.)
