4.5 Stars. I thoroughly enjoyed this book minus one part, which I know is central to the plot of the book. Nevertheless, I do wish Olive’s insecurities could be taken down a notch. I think the tension and miscommunication could still be there without having to portray the female lead as so insecure. Regardless, I enjoyed the book a lot and can’t wait to read more of Hazelwood’s work.

Okay this book was a cute book to get lost in for a day or two but after finishing it and stepping back it was very skimpy written. I will definitely read the next one. Overall I would recommend this to anyone who loves easy to read slightly unrealistic but extremely cute romances.
Olive was a women in stem which I love but I feel like her character was poorly explained. Everyone told her she was amazing and beautiful but there was just nothing told about her for us to imagine anything about her. I know she’s Canadian and that she’s 5’8” and that she’s super smart and dedicated to her study. I also know Adam is hot, super buff, and moody yet kind to olive. All are basic but I wish there was a little more. Either more about what makes them unique or more descriptions in there personalities.
The best friends were pure gold. I love all of them and it was even better that Adam had great friends. I also like how it revealed a lot about going through STEM as a women or a minority. Overall regardless of gender it’s extremely difficult and will make you question of you are smart enough. I also like how they were older and farther in their education and not just freshmen in college.
I liked most of the dialogue and their conversations were cute. My beef was with how they took inside jokes or joking jabs and repeated them a million times throughout the book. I wish there was more distinctive details without having to repeat the same scene 12 times. I do love a little throw back but not when it’s overused. I think that just ties back to Adam’s characters being a little bland. I hope we get to know him more in the second book ‘love on the brain’

I mean… it’s a romance book. Plot was predictable and LOTS of unrealistic moments. But some parts were quite funny and I appreciated the science references since I have the displeasure of studying chem and bio in high school rn :/ You can’t really judge these books with the same metrics you might use to analyze classical literature, but if only these characters had ONE GODDAMN OUNCE of introspective skills…

Ali Hazelwood's writing really meshed well with my tastes. I was really hesitant to pick up this book because I thought the plot was super strange. After seeing dozens of amazing reviews, I caved and immediately dove into this book. It really exceeded all of my expectations. Like I said, Hazelwood's writing really worked well for me, and I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two main characters, Olive and Dr. Carlsen. Some moments had me screaming (literally) at the book, and I could not put it down. I really wish we got some of Adam's perspective because I really wish I knew what was going on in his head. Love on the Brain comes out in late 2022... I will be patiently waiting until then.
