We meet three friends who met at University and have opened a shop togther, they each have a third of the shop and specialise in three diffent things.
Sera is a jounal makers and sells other books as well. Her journals have become famous thanks to a singer who bought a journal from her and has subsequently written a hit album.
She became friends with an elderly gentleman called Ford and the time they spent together meant a lot to Sera, he taught her so many things about book binding. However, he has passed away and has left Sera some books. His suspicious Grandson has come to town to persuade Sera to return the books his Grandfather left her but as they spend time together could this be the really gift that Ford was leaving them both?

I really enjoyed this book with good characters and plot line.

i don't know why i didn't expect to love this book, but i read it and was just shocked by how real it was and how much i was relating to the main characters. i think i thought this book was going to have a bit more magic, but it really was just kind of the suggestion of magic and fate, which i feel like influenced how the main characters looked at life, which i thought was so beautiful. i loved how the story came along and i feel like it was a really intriguing love story because they did sort of get together early on, but it worked out well because the book was so short. also this delved into the complexities of things like belonging and relationships with family and friends and in a way that i felt was super relatable. i really loved it, and i would say it was a 4.5 stars ⭐️.

A hallmark movie in book format (though maybe with a better premise). The story idea itself was cute, quaint, and cosy. I actually really liked seeing the main couple bond over books and the main character bond with her sister-like friends. However, this contrasted heavily with the actual writing. If you've ever heard the phrase ‘show don’t tell’ in reference to writing, this book does a lot of telling.

About the *spicy* scenes; I‘ve done a lot of thinking about them - because there were quite a few. Occasionally, a relationship in a book will benefit a little from a little spice. However, that depends mainly on how it is portrayed and the way emotions are involved. Handled well, the scene can be meaningful. On the other hand, it can become overly cliche and cringe. Unfortunately, this book falls in the latter category. Mainly going back to the fact the writing is mainly telling instead of showing. The language was explicitly plain (which is not always a bad thing) with no euphemisms or flowery-ness to be seen. And it is that flowery poetry-ness that gives a written story true beauty. In this case, a fade to black would have served the book much better.

That was my main problem with the book. There was too much badly written spice. I would have appreciated more focus on the cute moments that really showed the main couple bonding.
Everything else felt forced and unnecessary.
