One of the things I enjoy about this series is that it's Fantasy Lite™. While there's a high fantasy setting, the world-building is bare bones, there are only about four different characters, magic is hand-wavey, and speech is fairly modern. It's easy to dive into and provides the dopamine of a fantasy novel without the time investment (on the end of the author or the reader). Unfortunately, this installment was Plot Lite™. It was boring. Very little happened. I felt restricted by Teagan's POV. I couldn't bring myself to care about the action or "cliffhanger" at the end. My eyes glazed over. And I'm not sure if I'm going to read the final book in the trilogy though I have to assume it would be more interesting than this one.

What a disappointment!
My main complain was that I was BORED! Looking at the new cover, I thought this book would have been full of action and adventure. But no, it was a boring-nothing-is-really-happening kind of boring.

so, second book.

this one suffers from middle book syndrome unfortunately. there’s almost nothing that really happens and everything that does happen is SLOW until the last like 15% of the book. i can forgive an overly quick story a lot more than i can forgive an overly slow story.

teagan’s pov was hella grating at a lot of points, the conflict was pedantic and unnecessary and i found myself begging for some better communication. thank god for the last little bit of action and zorvut’s pov, it saved this book from a 2 or lower rating.

still here for the vibes tho and still gonna be here for the third book! cause i’m already in this deep might as well finish it up!
