putting what you’re all arguing over about characterization aside, this book was amazing
3.5. some of the most beautiful art i've ever seen, could look at it for hours, and a great premise, but a weak ending and some baffling, difficult to read font choices.
L'histoire m'a captivée.

i did not understand where the story was going or what actually happened, it’s very difficult to read. art is amazing though
"Myself to myself. I must see my reflection to prove I still exist. Desperately, I peel the tape from the mirror, breaking my fingernails, strip by strip. Until I stand revealed in the glass. And I stare into old familiar eyes."
Graphic: Self harm, Medical trauma, Murder, Schizophrenia/Psychosis
Moderate: Pedophilia, Sexual assault
I really love McKean's illustrations. It wasn't bad- I wish it could've been longer, actually.
The story isn't clear, the dialogue ain't clear, nothing is clear in here, maybe Morrison was in drugs when he wrote this, the only "good" thing in here are some of the art style.
If you want to fully understand this, you should go get some marihuana and meth.

Hard to say, on this one. I think the enjoyment of this one lives and dies with the art. On the one hand, the visuals are absolutely incredible, I've never seen anything like it. They're shocking, unforgettable, weird, kind of unsettling and creative. It really has to be seen by any graphic novel fan.
On the other hand, the art gets in the way of the story. I often couldn't tell what the hell was going on, the text is really hard to read, I didn't really ever get a sense of space...but that sort of goes with the theme of an Asylum, going mad, the inmates are in charge, that sort of thing so I can accept that.
In the end, I didn't like the story very much at all. The dialogue, in particular Batman's, isn't appealing and the character of Batman is bizarrely out of place. Lots of good, but lots of stuff I didn't enjoy at all. Still, it's not long and I like that Morrison and McKean took a huge risk. It's definitely something.

The Three star rating is almost solely for the artwork as the illustrations are incredible in my opinion. But the story as a whole is thin, and is trying to be dark and edgy and serious with nothing to actually say
