I usually don't end up giving the Kate Daniels side books higher than a 3 star rating, but this one took me by surprise. The romance between Dali and Jim worked much better for me here than it did in Magic Dreams. Jim still had moments where he was overprotective, but this was mostly Dali doing her thing and being awesome. I love reading about her magic, it's so fascinating and different from the other characters in this world.
