6 years after her trip to Eriga it's time for Isabella to do another science journey. This time she goes on the ship The Basilisk to travel the world, and she's bringing her 9 year old son Jacob with her. Isabella examines which breeds are related to dragons, and she also wants to know if anyone ever managed to tame them.

New adventures for Lady Trent (although she's still Mrs Camherst)! As usual she gets mixed up in different things, and has one or two encounters with death. A slightly unexpected ingredient is that Isabella at one time is forced to marry a woman in order to continue her research. I liked that it wasn't such a big deal that two women were getting married. I also enjoyed that we got to know the son Jake (Jacob). Not much of a surprise that he seems to have inherited his mother's adventurous nature, but he’s more interested in being a sailor than to study dragons or any other scientific work. I'm really looking forward to continue this series!
