15-minute audiobook of short story. Allegorical commentary on love, starting out with romanticism and ending with the humorous cynicism to be expected from Oscar Wilde.
Hated this story. I don't care how clever and satirical it's supposed to be, it's ugly and brutal and horrible. Ugly, selfish humans deserve no such sacrifice. We don't know love when we see it and we trample it in the streets every day. This goes with The Giving Tree on the shelf of stories I wish I'd never read.
"What a silly thing Love is," said the Student as he walked away. "It is not half as useful as Logic, for it does not prove anything, and it is always telling one of things that are not going to happen, and making one believe things that are not true."

May be because i took it with great expectations that it didn't satisfy me as much. If we take it on a more philosophical level , then it is makes more sense . It was kinda too lovey dovey for me .
But the end made me emotional. I spat some swear words at the character ( the young student) . Other than that the story kinda disappointed me
