agatha christie is a genius. i had seen the movie a couple of years ago and loved it, but the book was still an emotional mystery with twists and turns in every direction. this was my first poirot book, and certainly not my last!

Hercule Poirot, stop thirsting over your murder suspects challenge (impossible)
Also congrats to Agatha Christie for having a more diverse cast and progressive storytelling IN THE 30S than almost anything until like 5 years ago

Perhaps I am selling the book short with a 4.25 star rating, because it really is fantastic, and I remember how shocked I was the first time I read it.  But reading it now, there are several times where the characters sort of mockingly say the answer, like, well, it couldn't be X... I feel sure more astute readers probably can guess the answer.  It was probably a pretty surprising revelation when the book was new however.  The book always makes me very sad for little Daisy Armstrong and her family (especially knowing it is based on a real life kidnapping).  In any case, this is still one of Christie's best books.

Book nineteen of my personal read through of Agatha Christie in (American) publication order.

I wasn't sure how this would hold up when I've watched the movie recently enough to know the main twist from the very beginning, but this story was in fact, still fantastic. (Maybe the audio book and having a great narrator actually  helped with this?) The characters are all interesting regardless of the outcome of the story, and there were one or two small details about the resolution I'd forgotten, so I still enjoyed those reveals.

Some of the more lauded Agatha Christie novels I think are not among her best works, but in this case, the book deserves every bit of fame it has.

A very well constructed mystery that still packs a punch even when you know the "solution". I thought Christie did an excellent job laying out how Poirot figured out that
all of the inhabitants of the train car were connected
- groundwork that's laid as early as the first chapter and with quite a payoff.
