This is my first book by Anita Shreve and I was impressed. Though I had to read the last page ten times and THEN come online to make sure I understood it correctly, I thought it was an interesting twist. The only thing that I disliked was, if the entire love story was something that Thomas invented in his head, I feel like the depth of their love is lessened. I am 22, and not down-playing young love, but they only knew each other for a short while, rather than the life-time that made the book so touching. Oh well.. I still liked it and pretend that the love story actually happened hahaha.

blah

I struggled through a lot of the book and finally got to the end, hoping there was something that made it all worthwhile.
And here I sit, having finished it, wondering what the f*. Where are all these clues that were supposedly dropped throughout the whole book? Maybe I was so tired with the writing that I missed them? And what was the point of the whole damn novel then?
I'll stop there, because I would have to cover this whole review as a spoiler, and I try not to do that.
I've never read this author before, and not really sure if I want to read anything else.

I felt thoroughly cheated

I got what I expected and wanted from the book so my review is 100% subjective. The writing was beautiful and had so many little nuggets of how life feels at different ages. It was also romantic in all the right ways and then totally gutted me at the end. I read reviews and thought I knew how it would end but was totally surprised.

A story in three parts- told in reverse order, of first love, separation, hope and redemption. The Last Time They Met also turned out to be much more serious than I'd first expected, and the ending took me by surprise (won't give it away though).

This book hit a real romantic spot with me seven years ago; I'm thinking of re-reading to find if it still generates the same appeal since I am not a fan of her other novels.

This is not my cup-of-tea. I started it a few days ago, and I'm having a hard time getting into it. :(

It's official, I have given up on this book. Even though I've never been a fan of Anita Shreve's works, I thought I'd give this one a chance because it sounded really good. The same remains as always for me, though: Shreve's writing bores me. :(

Yes, I'm a heathen. I did not like this. at all. sorry, Anita.
