My first Anita Shreve book, totally missed the ending the first time and had to re read, but loved it despite the sad ending.
I almost never abandon a book but this was so bad I just couldn't keep reading. Blaargh. Don't bother. It's not worth your time.
All I will say is that the ending gave me chill bumps. I did not expect it at all, & it makes me want to re-read the book to catch the clues that predict the ending. The story is told backwards, but in such a successful, fluid motion. It's very tricky to do, but Shreve pulled it off fabulously.

I keep trying this author and it's not a style I'm crazy about. The use of italics instead of quotation marks for dialogue just irks me, and the characters are so self-involved I found it difficult to like them or even empathize with them.
3 - viel zu langatmig & detailliert, interessante erzählweise (von hinten) & großes potenzial, aber ende fragwürdig, an sich gute beziehungsgeschichte

Took a long time to get nowhere. Did guess the ending at one point, but still a surprise.
