ap lit strikes back :(( I thought my least favorite part of that class was the poems, but the short stories are worse. i liked the ending of this story, but the beginning and middle were boring!

I listened to a different version of The Dead (on youtube read by T Hynes [ChapterVox]) and it was a great experience! Doesn't really change my experience with the plot itself <I was still confused as hell) but the guy who read it did a fantastic job! His accent, pronunciation, singing and delivery in general were incredible and I highly recommend this version. It helped me with understanding certain parts (pronouncing Gabriel's name with 3 syllables...) and just added so much life to the story itself!

Didn't understand much while reading but so many details surfaced while discussing it in class that made me appreciate it so much more. Joyce's works and style are not for me, but his influence and importance is undeniable. It's just a bit too complex for me as a reader with a culture and language barrier and still limited literature knowledge.

James Joyce writes in such rounded and mature language; it settles over the characters and their inner world like the snow settles over Ireland in the story. Very beautiful.

I will not be rating this right now, since I read it in a hot day in the crowded subway and feel I haven't given it the attention it deserves, especially after reading so many thoughtful reviews. Here's hoping for a better reading situation in the future!

This was really great, exactly what I needed and I read it in one sitting. You can tell that the characters are holding back and when they finally reveal what they are thinking, it’s so powerful. The setting was also very well described, I felt so cold in the hotel room at the end just by the descriptions.
