This book was everything I want in a second book. It built upon what happened in the first and perfectly set up for the third book. There were many times that this book had me reacting out loud because of what was happening. I am glad we got some chapters from Nassun's perspective. It was interesting to see what was happening with her during the time that would be the first book and beyond. I loved how we got to see all the different parts of the world. I need to pick up the next book soon to see how everything works out!

No clue why I waited so long to read the sequel. Absolutely incredible.

My only regret concerning this book is that I waited so long after reading the first volume of this trilogy. N. K. Jemisin has crafted a complicated and wholly believable universe with a diverse cast of characters that, in my opinion, well deserves the multiple nominations and awards, including the 2016 Hugo, it has garnered. A gripping combination of adventure, character development, and plot twists I can highly recommend "the Obelisk Gate".
