3.5 - interested in the world and the continuation of the story, still a little surprised at the complete lack of plot in the middle of this book. the resolution of the conflict felt... lacking? Completely within a realistic realm of possibilities, but not very exciting honestly. I'll probably continue this series, we'll see.

Well. I did not know this was a uh, monster love?, book (Series name being Monstrous, was clearly not a big enough clue for my dumbass) and I'm as virtuous in this genre as sweet Danny was, and well,
I aint ashamed to say I absolutely loved it. Like, laying on bed, giggling and kicking up my heels at how cute these two were 😅😁
(the narrator absolutely knocked it out the park too!)

Jetzt also Monster-Horror-Romance in einer apokalyptischen Welt. Ich lerne im Romance Genre ständig was Neues. War zumindest so interessant und gut geschrieben, dass ich noch den zweiten Band lesen werde.

I really wanted to like this more, but it just dropped off once we got over that proverbial hump. iykyk.
premise was intriguing. Danny is adorable. Wyn is mysterious. it gets a bit weird, but to be expected. haha.
just fell flat in character development and plot after about 60%

I just recently finished the Folk Series by Lily Mayne, so I wanted to finally give the Monstrous Series a try, as it has been on my TBR for a couple of years now. Soul Eater was an amazing read! Why did I put this off so long!!!
Danny and Wyn were such interesting characters, and I loved the authors' interpretation on a dystopian alien (ish) invasion, as well as the plot twist that These 'Soul Eaters' were actually helping humanity, taking out infected humans before they could hurt anyone else. The various monsters that were introduced in this first book were so fascinating based on introductory descriptions alone, and I'm stoked to read more of these standalone stories to learn more about them. Excited to read Edin next!

Soul Eater was a pleasure to read from beginning to end. I went into this with a vague idea of what it was about, but was seriously impressed with the sense of scale that the author was able to achieve in a book that is under 400 pages.
The bond that develops between Danny and Wyn is nothing short of beautiful. Both characters start the book at opposite ends emotionally and literally, but as the book develops, they meet in the middle in a way that, despite this being a monster romance, feels very natural and sweet.
Danny is a man who comes from very little but has a heart of gold after being raised by his momma, and he really tries to go through the world with compassion and understanding, despite the fact that everything has gone to shit around him. Wyn is mysterious, sarcastic, kind of terrifying, but he is anything but a stereotype. Under the curious exterior lies someone who has been roaming for many a millennium and has never found someone who sees him until Danny. I can't say anything more because you really have to experience this for yourself.
The smut in these books is, for the most part, excellently done. I'm no stranger to monster romance, so I had a vague idea of what to expect below the belt, but the way it was handled with such care and confidence made it a joy to read. My only real criticism is the overuse of certain words to describe what Wyn has going on down there, but I'll leave that for you to discover.
I am very excited to continue reading this series!

Soul Eater is book 1 in the Monstrous series by Lily Mayne.
I believe no edit or review of mine would be powerful or significant enough to express how I feel after reading Wyn and Danny's story. I'm so sad I will never get to read this story again for the first time.
There's just something about this romance between Wyn The Soul Eater, and Sweet Danny... this read was physical and emotional for me. My body was literally shaking some times from smiling or crying so much. I don't know how to explain, but the writing completely sucked me in and frankly, I don't want to ever get out.
I have highlighted every time Wyn touches Danny, and friends, that is MANY times. Wyn seemed to always need to touch his lover. Those little moments of tenderness were the emotional summit for me. And yes, the spice scenes were AH-mazing, but the intimacy... was so believable and real and simple and sweet. I was smitten. Butterflies!
How freaking special are the two MCs. I cannot get enough of them. Danny totally surprised me. His complete openess to Wyn, his attraction to him, his vulnerability and amazing strenght. And Wyn was just absolute perfection from start to finish. His deathly nature yet affectionate side for his sweet human was breathtaking.
The simplicity of Lily Mayne's writing but the details and complexities of her characters and world hooked me. I'm so sad I'm done with this one but now have all the other monster books to look forward to. Also, the fanart for these books is insane and I am just craving all of it.
Bring on Edin!

4.5 stars;
This was fantastic and so unlike anything I usually read. Wyn and Danny were adorable together and this story packs more of an emotional punch than I expected. Can't wait to read the rest of the series.

I really liked the storyline, and it was a pretty easy storyline to follow. It was a pretty easy read. I definitely fell in love with the characters and I am currently reading the second one.
