This is a tough one. I enjoyed the writing but at the same time this was way too complicated with way too many characters. This will be another 3.5⭐ rounded down, I seem to be picking a lot of those recently.

Maggie is our protagonist. The story opens with her having been (recently?) heartbroken by her long time boyfriend Greg. Then we find out that Greg's new girlfriend is our famous missing artist. As Maggie works for a very well known museum in LA she is still bombarded by her ex and his new love in the form of a huge show of her work at the museum.

Enter a wild number of Maggie's coworkers very quickly. We learn names and jobs and associations with Maggie in such a speed that I kept having to go backwards to remember who was who.

I found this to be a decent mystery but overly complicated. I was hoping that the ending would justify the large cast and their novella like lives but I don't feel that it did.

I think the author was trying to make a point about the safety of women and the way that being aware of our safety (or lack thereof) can affect our lives and the way in which we live our lives.

I would probably read more from this author but I don't think I would use a BOTM pick to do so again.

Fun whodunnit mystery with a slow build. I did not see the end coming and now plan to read the next one. I love the cover art and the setting centered on the LA art scene. It’s definitely a modern story but not fast-paced at all. Minimal graphic violence. It is about a woman who working in an LA art gallery on an exhibit where the featured artist goes missing just before the opening of her show featuring a series of self-portraits with social commentary based on real-life victims of violent crime.

The book started as a slow read but picked up halfway through. The ending was not what I would have expected and reminded me of a tv series that couldn't figure out what to do for their final episode so they pulled something together.

This was fine, I guess, for a quick summer read. It was fun to read a thriller/mystery set in the industry in which I used to work (contemporary art museum). The writing was featureless and forgettable, and the story took a while to get going, but was entertaining enough to make me want to finish the book.

It was an enjoyable read; I felt like it had potential to be a four or five star read, but it was too short and the ending felt rushed. It could have been a much longer book and I wish it would have been for the sake of character arcs and development. Overall, good reading experience!

I really loved this look into violence against women. Even if it was a degree removed from the actual death, the art pieces depicting women who met violent ends is so striking, this was a very stand-out tale to me in the beginning. It did fall off a bit toward the end but wow
