I wasn't a fan of the first 50 pages. I forced myself to continue reading because it was for book club. Thankfully, the story picked up once they returned from Italy! The banter was witty at times, but I didn't connect with or care for any of the characters.
The story was a bit hard to follow at times. It didn't flow as well as other classic literature I've read.
This was pretty much the consensus of our book club. I'll stick to Jane Austen for my classic romance. Although I'm always open to suggestions!

I've seen the movie a few times but somehow didn't get the plot... Now I do!
Charlotte is my favorite; violets and the Arno and the magic of a pensione.
I finally got round to reading this classic. beautiful descriptions and observations this book was a delight. it was witty even if it was old fashioned in its view but that's what gives it that timeless in a way feel to it, another era to step into. I loved the Emerson (the ones you didn't mix with sort) as truly they were the ones to make the main character Lucy see the world and life in a different way from her fussy old cousin Charlotte, amongst others. Will she learn to listen to the world around her and to her own heart, you'll have to read it to find out but i wasn't disappointed in this book and i will seek out others by this well known author that i have left off my radar for way too long.

Didn’t really feel compelled one way or another, so solid 2.5/5.
This is such a beautiful book that provided my soul with great amounts of comfort.
It’s boring and the characters are not likeable.
