Lily, Bernie, Rose and the gang are back! Rose's longtime friend comes to visit with her children, grandchildren and grandchildren. Her wealthy granddaughter brings her late husband's brother and sister-in-law as well. This party alone is keeping Lily busy at the B&B and Tea room. I love how Lily tries to avoid any involvement and only finds herself further in the middle of a murder. I am loving the cozy mysteries by Delany! I am hoping to start her other series, written under Eva Gates, and maybe try her Christmas series later this year.

Murder in a Teacup is the second book in the Tea by the Sea Mystery series by author Vicki Delany. I am a fan of this author's work and have read all of the series she has published. I have to say, for me, this is my least favorite of her series. I like Lily Roberts and many of the secondary cast of characters. I found her best friend Bernie and her grandmother Rose toned down from the first book. They didn't seem quite as pushy where Lily is concerned. For some reason I can't quite identify, I can't seem to connect with the characters in this series so far. This time around, the family of one of Rose's old friends is staying at the B & B for a family reunion. This a fairly dysfunctional family with a lot of drama to sort through. I got the feeling the family members didn't really like each other but were there because one member of the family was wealthy and used her money as a lure. When one of the family members dies in Tea by the Sea, Lily, Rose, and Bernie decide to investigate. This time around, I was able to identify the killer, but I did enjoy seeing how Lily put the clues together to help lead the police to the right killer.

I may attempt the next books to see if I can connect with these characters better. I really enjoy this author and her writing style so I really want to like this series.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Kensington, through NetGalley. The thoughts expressed are my own.

I found the pacing of this book to be overly slow, and the author liked to repeated plot points and details to the point of redundancy. While I liked the idea of this book, it could have been a full 100 pages shorter. I really wish I could have enjoyed it more. The premise of a mystery solving owner of a tea shop is super intriguing, but the execution just wasn’t there for me.

Murder in a Teacup by Vicki Delany has us in the middle of the tearoom and the bed and breakfast's busiest time of the year. Yep, that means it is set in the summer, and now they also have a murder to solve.

Will Lily reign in Rose and Bernie regarding this newest case?

Lily Roberts, Rose, and Bernie

Lily Roberts has her hands quite busy with her mornings, starting at the bed and breakfast, making the breakfast for the guests, and then running her tearoom at the front of the property. Just add in the murder of Rose's old friend's granddaughter's brother-in-law, then Lily sadly has an overwhelming full plate. Her grandma Rose decides they need to investigate because it is her friend's family, and she wants to take care of it. Bernie because it gives her another chance to procrastinate on her book. Sadly, Lily gets roped into helping them solve this case because people always seem to talk to her, and she always seems to figure out the clues before Bernie and Rose.

The Mystery

Murder in Tea Cup CRSandra, Heather, and their guests have a tea party at Lily's tearoom, where a member of their party, Ed French, is poisoned and dies later that day. So, of course, to save their businesses, Lily and Rose, with the help of Bernie, decide to solve the case. I was stumped throughout the mystery, trying to figure out who could have done it. Even though part of me thought I knew who it was but didn't want to admit to it. That part of me was correct. I feel bad for many of the people in this story who had to deal with the McHenry and French families.
Five Stars

Murder in a Teacup by Vicki Delany is the second book in this beautiful series. I can't wait to read the next book. Ms. Delany has a great way of getting the reader to think that they are there trying to solve the case with the characters. It's always a fun time going into one of her stories. I am giving Murder in a Teacup by Vicki Delany five stars and a recommendation to anyone that loves an excellent cozy culinary mystery.

At the back of the book, Ms. Delany gives us three recipes. They are Chocolate Chip Cookies, Shortbread Cookies, and Curried Egg Salad Sandwiches.

The story was decent, but the narrator was trying to do accents and failing miserably.  It made it horrible to listen.  It's a shame since I love all of the author's other books.  I listened to the 1st in the series and the narrator wasn't this bad on that one.

I cannot get into this book. Most of the characters are incredibly grating. I'm not sure if it's the book or my mood at the moment so I'm not going to give it a rating.
