Everytime I've talked to someone about potential books to read, this book had come up on multiple occasions over time. So, I thought it was time to check it out :)

I think I would've appreciated it more if I were a bit younger, but it was an interesting read nonetheless. I really liked how it was formatted and how each segment offered an alternative perspective on the different forms of love and their applications. Overall, a pretty good read 🫶

Perhaps my perspective is coloured by the fact that I have been wanting to read this for many years, but it's hard for me to know how to review my experience of reading this. There were sections which felt, for me, profoundly revelatory and beautifully rendered into words and other sections that felt sweeping and sluggish and heavily leaned into Christian theology and/or concepts as the ideal prism through which to see and understand love, which I struggled to relate to or find compelling. I think it's undeniable that bell hooks was and continues even in her absence to be a visionary, and I am glad that her work exists in the world, but this wasn't the home run that I thought it would be when I was a few chapters in.

The themes and most of her analogies are great, however I found the book quite repetitive and written in a way that wasn't enjoyable for me to read.

Du dev perso avec une dose bien trop prononcée de religieux... pas pour moi malgré quelques pépites intéressantes.
