Great story, lots of twists and turns and you are never quite sure who you are rooting for. I recommend this book to everyone (after reading the first book of course) Bartimaeus is quite the character. Probably one of the best I've ever had the pleasure to read about.
Long overdue but here I go, another great novel by Jonathan stroud, honestly I am a fan and at the ripe age of 29 I’m still 120% scared reading some of the /spooky/ chapters. Again, very good portrayal of a young magician progressing in his political career, kind of losing himself to the unfair and system of this fantasy flavoured British empire. Still think it is way better portrayed than in rf kuang’s babel I will repeat that so I won’t forget. Very enjoyable addition of kitty’s pov, a girl who’s been fighting in the resistance trying to overthrow the government. Defo would want my kids to read it one day

The book starts kinda slow: for a long while things happen but it doesn't feel like they are leading anywhere. Things speed up towards the end though, and Nathaniel's development was interesting.
For a book with a golem in it, there could have been more Jews. Besides that, this book was just as much fun as the first one. There are some plot holes, but also it's a book for kids. I love the characters, especially Bartimaeus and Kitty. Now I'm going to start the third book.

Fantastically engaging, lightning quick, and with really wonderful dialogue. Its biggest strength remains the fascinating magic system Stroud has invented, and the characters of the "demons" we meet. Bartimaeus, Nathaniel, Kitty all work well as protagonists, and there's some really great stuff with an Afrit called Honorius. It's not subtle, but it's not trying to be, and the whole magic as a metaphor for wealth thing works so well I wasn't bothered by it. Great read, worth checking out the trilogy
Kitty Jones is one of my favorite ladies in a very, very long time. It's a shame that we have to deal with Nathaniel as well.
