This was my favorite of The Niebla series. It has a great mix of mystery, fantasy and a little bit of horror thrown in.

It was all fun and games and then this book turned so dark and even a little bit creepy. I liked it!

It was a very fast read. I love Carlos Ruiz Zafón as a writer (he’s a Barcelonas author) and Lucia Graves’s translation of his work. This is one of his YA novels that he wrote in the ‘90s that was recently translated, and it was fine. It was anything very new or compelling for their work. It’s another gothic ghost story filled with love and tragedy, and although it’s captivating, it wasn’t compelling or new. If anything, I would say to try this as your first Carlos Ruiz Zafón / Lucia Graves book, as they only get better, with Marina as his best YA book and The Shadow of the Wind as the start of his adult series.

I think I like this better than the first book, which is rare. Definitely a must-read if you read and enjoyed the first one at all!
