I'm leaning into the tired 1990s library copy vibes of this one. Who puts a sticker over the title of a book, I mean really...

David Lodge writes a funny book. I've often commented how hard comedic books are to get right, and I was still smiling by the 250th page, so hats off DL.

Two English professors (one American, one Brit) exchange positions and countries for 6 months. Antics ensue. That's all you need to know about this book.

Lodge's incisive eye for Americans and their unselfawareness is only matched by his merciless skewering of Brits, epitomised in the dithering, wet, hapless but ultimately decent British professor.

Written in the 1970s, it was interesting to read about things that were obviously au courrant - hippies and love-ins and protests. Definitely things in there you wouldn't get away with writing today, but it's a fascinating snapshot in time.

Pick it up if you're after a vaguely university-themed laugh.

Thanks to @justinwhite for the suggestion!

This felt really dated in some places and eerily relevant in others. Extra star for the Austen nerdery (still laughing at 'FANNY PRICE IS A FINK').

Not a huge fan of this book. It was a little dry. Two professors are swapping places in an exchange program between England and the imaginary state of Euphoria. Yeah, the university is called Euphoric State. The profs switch jobs among other things (it was set in the 70's). I read the whole thing. The book was short. Now I can't get that time back.
