I only gave this one star cause - well, I had no other option - and Flora is a hot badass and I liked her.
Omg, I hated this book so much...
Clichê, horrendous writing, dumb characters.
I had absolutely no expectations for it (read it for my book club), but FOR GOD SAKE I was surprised by how bad it was. Like- That fight at the end? I thought my last neuron was finally hallucinating, but it was actually real.
I was going to compare the writing to a straight Harry Styles Wattpad fanfic, but I have a feeling that even those might be better than this.

The writer really should research the country she's writing about. So many inconsistencies. Characters were dull and completely boring. Plot lacked substance and variety. Nothing much happened. Pretty cover though.
im- so GAY
kinda wish the ending wasn’t so rushed but ehh at least we got a grand gesture lol

It's more of a 2.5
I didn't live it, but that had a lot to do with how the story worked, it just wasn't my thing much.

4/5 Royal Stars🏴
I was given an early copy of this book for an honest review. A big thank you to Penguin Teen Canada for the ARC❤️
I absolutely loved Her Royal Highness by Rachel Hawkins. This book had everything I wanted, from the setting to the characters I instantly feel in love. Going into book I still haven’t read the first in the companion series and yes it would be helpful for character cross over, but I never felt like I was missing out on key parts to the story! Although now I really want to read the first because I loved this one!
This is the story about Millie, a 17 year old bisexual girl from Texas. Ever since she saw the movie Brave as a little girl she’s been obsessed with Scotland, so when she finds a Scottish boarding school Millie will do just about anything to go. This boarding school is known for being a males only school where many royals have attended, now they are opening their doors for girls and Millie is ready to make some history! Although Millie doesn’t know just what Scotland had in store for her or who her new roommate is, she’s ready for a change.
Going into this story I knew I was going to enjoy it. Millie was a fantastic MC who managed to be such a unique and stand out character. For one thing she’s obsessed with geology which I LOVED! I don’t really know why this part of the book was such a huge part for me but every time Millie mentioned rocks I got so happy. I also adored all the side characters. Like please let the next book be about Sakshi and Perry or Lee because I love them all now! Also Millie’s aunt? Like so cool, I’m kind of sad we only had one scene with her.
Another aspect I loved was how mature Millie was, she was just such a strong character and so sure of who she was that it was such a delight to read from her perspective.
As for the romance...I loved it! I loved everything about it! When we first met Flora I was nervous but man did these two just complement each other so well! I wanted the story to continue on so I can see them do mundane tasks together because I didn’t want to lose them!
As for why this isn’t a 5 star read I only had one sliiiiight issue and that’s just that I wish we had a bit more to the story. I don’t want to go into the ending because spoilers! But it kind of just became very convenient ending and I wish we had some closure on how everything was going to tie in with Floras family (is that vague enough😂).
Either way I am hopeful that if Rachel Hawkins writes Sebs story then we will be able to revisit these two and maybe see where they ended up!
Thank you again to Penguin for once again being the best!! And to Rachel for giving us these two beautiful Queer ladies I am so happy to see so many queer books coming out!

I really enjoyed this. Cute romance. Stereotypical American that romantices Scotland falls for stereotypical posh British princess? Perfectly cliché. Well written, funny, entertaining, I would recommend.
