The Story That Almost Was
I can't lie was left feeling very disappointed after a strong start with this story. This story just feels somewhat half done and not complete just almost lots of things without ever being fully any of them. It feels almost funny but after setting up lots of comedy it drops off. It feels almost spicy but then completely drops it with only two sexy scenes that are focused on heroine receiving oral, the second one has an amazing build of tension and heat then right when the couple consummates intercourse it literally just ends the scene. I gotta say was like a sudden emergency brake after a fantastic build up. It feels almost magical while setting up the potential for magic being real instead of continuing to build and explain through the lens of our novice heroine the magic just becomes hand-waved and barely described so it becomes more confusing and unclear then engaging and mystical. Not to mention that there is such a thing as characters being overly explicit and flatly discussing their internal conflict and drive that just makes me yawn. Just naming motivation directly instead of showing internal conflict. I am also not a fan of the blatant misunderstanding as the crux of conflict and the lead female's actions felt insanely childish and nonsensical. The original set up and promise of this story just felt dropped and undeveloped and I'll be honest the preview for the next installment made me cringe instead of call to me. It is such a shame as the skeleton of this story is solid if it had been developed more. But one thing I will say I can listen to Will Watt be Scottish any day, anytime, anywhere. Swoon. Yeah his female voices were rough at the start a little too air fry but got better with time the rest of his voices were amazing and another reason the second steamy scene felt so jarring and sudden stop because his banter and build up to that moment was utterly compelling, one of the better male narrators I've heard. I would definitely seek out his narration. Amy's narration was funny because I enjoyed all her voices except for the female lead. Sad to say I do not feel any need to continue the series especially having a peek at the next book.

Thank you to The Nerd Fam and Author Tricia O’Malley for the ARC! Here is my honest review! I really liked this super cute, contemporary rom com with fantasy elements.I laughed, swooned and overall had a great time while reading. I’m definitely going to read the next installment of the series! Sophie loved nothing more than spreadsheets and knowing exactly what’s happening and when. But when her eccentric uncle passes away and leaves her a castle with the stipulation that she has to “restore the Order” she goes on a whirlwind of adventure that not only leads her to the castle, but to becoming the knight of the Order of Caledonia. Add in some magic, a troublesome chihuahua, a ghost coo, and a yummy, grumpy Scotsman and you’ve got a quick read that keeps you entertained and realizing that you can be your own knight in your story.kayceeisbookish's review against another edition
