Read this for book club. It definitely made me cringe with the teacher student age gap situation, but I pushed past it and had to keep reading once I hit the half way mark. The second half of the book was chaotic and unhinged in a good way. Felt like I was reading a movie. Lol.

OKAY FREIDA MCFADDEN HAS DONE IT AGAIN!

Like most of her books, I binged this one in basically 3 sittings. I could not stop reading once I started. Her writing is my FAVE and it always sucks me in immediately. From the blurb, I thought this book was going to be very different! It was a shocking surprise when I realized the direction it was going and it definitely isn't for everyone.

I felt it was the perfect length - usually anything over 330 pages for me is too much, but this book was such a breeze to read. I thought I wasn't even half way through but then I checked my progress, and I was already more than halfway done and only had 52 minutes left!

This book definitely touches on some VERY sensitive subjects so please read any trigger warnings before starting it. It was uncomfortable at times to read based on the subject matter and the character's relationships, but that was also the point of the story.

Nathaniel Bennet is a predator and he is absolutely disgusting, but Freida did SUCH a good job writing his character along with Addie's. His inner dialogue was perfect for his sociopathic and pedophilic ways and Addie's inner dialogue was spot on for a teenage CHILD who is being groomed and gaslit on a daily basis by an adult (not to mention that adult IS HER TEACHER).

I was going to give this book a basic 3-3.5 stars, which is pretty usual for me for McFadden books, but the last chapter... BAM another twist! I just stared at my wall for 10 minutes trying to grasp the twist and what it meant for the story.
The fact that Eve was ALSO sleeping with a student... INSANE. I never once suspected that to be the twist. I did expect Mr. Tuttle to make a reappearance, maybe as the one who was antagonizing Nate after Eve's "death", but I never once expected Jay to be HUDSON! That changes Eve's character TREMENDOUSLY! Also, adding in the layer of Kenize Montgomery and the poem and the fact that Nate had also groomed EVE and was sleeping with her when she was a student of his... man, the last chapter was wild and it definitely propelled this average 3 star read up to a 4.5 for me!

Just because it’s legal, doesn’t mean you should write a book about it. Especially when one of the pedophiles in the book is also a murderer and rides off into the sunset.

I don’t read a lot of thrillers anymore but this premise sounded interesting so I gave it a try. It was a quick and engaging read with lots of twists and turns (some I guessed and some I definitely did not)

The writing style was really easy to read and kept my attention the entire time. The audiobook narrators also did a great job

There are definitely plot lines that require suspension of disbelief, but I still liked the story a lot overall

I’d certainly recommend this book for anyone looking for a quick and entertaining read!
