This book was suspenseful and disturbing at times. The writing was not my favorite, it was almost choppy at times. I was sometimes a bit lost as to what was going on. However, there were times when the scenes were vivid. Will Graham was an interesting character, along with his relationship with Jack Crawford. I wish we could have seen more Hannibal Lecter. He is a very intriguing character that I look forward to reading more of.

The beginning does slog and the logistics of the prose tend to whizz by mystery details, but the narrative's strength really lies in the intensely frightening and fascinating psychological labyrinths that the book forces you to navigate.

The moments of prose where they blend into bursts of stream of consciousness in Dolarhyde's mind are extremely haunting and excellent to read.

But if you're reading this to find Dr. Hannibal Lecter, you might find yourself disappointed. And are better off starting at the second novel.
