I like this book because im obsessed with the Hannibal series. It very much feels like it was written back in 1988. Lots of racism and homophobia and very detailed childhood abuse. I dont like this Will Graham as much as I liked Edward Nortons Will Graham in the film adaptation or the NBC series but it was alright. Definitely a cult classic that probably wouldn't get the same following if published today.

I actually think about this books a lot and how good it was. I really recommend and it’s much better than the film
it focusses on actual Francis not Hannibal so don’t expect stuff about Hannibal even though they put his name all on the front cover he’s just a minor character.

As a long-time fan of the Hannibal series, I found the book just as interesting. It is as gritty and unhinged as you would imagine a book about a serial killer would be. With that said, the story is teetering on the edge of being dated. (In some instances, it reads exactly as you would imagine people would talk from its publication time.) But I digress, the excitement of the cat and mouse chase being the main driving force of the book while Hannibal lurks in the background. A solid recommendation for anyone who may be on the fence about reading it.

I gave this book 5 stars the first time I read it and I can see why. The story feels compelling, even if it feels a bit predictable at times. Obviously we know things as the reader that the characters in the story don't know, and it feels appropriately satisfactory when they find out as well. Even though I remembered the gist of the story from the first time I read it, I still felt surprised at certain points so I have to give it props for that. This time around I think I am mainly impressed and a little uncomfortable by how much I feel bad for the villain once we learn his back story.

Will Graham is right, in the end. It is not the places that are haunted, but the people.
