The book drew me in, well and truly. The conflicting relationship between young Sophie and old Sophie was written so well. I have to say the ending wasn't as in depth, felt it has almost just been thrown together. Overall though I did enjoy this book and struggled to put it down whilst reading

The premise was interesting but I didnt really enjoy this book. It was slow and repetitive. I guessed the first twist in the very beginning but I was hoping it wasn't that obvious. The second twist I guessed but talked myself out of it because it didnt really seem to fit the story. I also didn't really like any of the characters. I kept reading because I was hoping for a good twist....but it didn't come.

This has been one of the best thriller/crime books I've read in a long time!

The way Victoria Selman makes you invested in the story is incredible. It's written in an interesting narrative - we get an older Sophie that brings us with her on a trip inside her memories to re-live everything with her.

And you may think - since you know how the story ends why would one like the book? Well... You don't exactly know everything - you know the start (kind of) and the end (kind of) but the number of things that are happening in the middle - you most likely wouldn't expect.

What I loved the most about this book is probably the little extras and interviews in-between chapters where we can see how the world was seeing Matty and the murders too, which is not a popular accent in books but it definitely gives the "real" feeling to it.

The last few chapters where Sophie goes to prison to visit Matty left me in shock, it was a real rollercoaster and I didn't expect it at all! That's why I liked this book so much.

We get to see a few real-life aspects in this book: mental health and how important it is not only for victims and their families but also the families of those who committed the crime which in my opinion is usually not taken into consideration when it comes to real life. I'm really glad that Victoria Selman added to her book the parts about serial killers having fans - we're living in the times when even Ted Bundy has his fans and it's sickening.

Overall I enjoyed this book a lot and I'd love to buy a physical copy once it is out to read again! Also I'd love to see it as a TV show or a movie - when I was reading the book I was seeing the scenes in my head and how good it all could come out!

Thanks to Quercus Books and Netgalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

Ok, this book started out kinda slow and kinda kept that pace for me. It took me a bit to get into it, but the story was interesting. It goes through this girl's childhood and life with her mother and her mom's boyfriend who is arrested for being a serial killer.

You're given bits a pieces that start to point the finger, but you're only getting part of the story. The rest is revealed at the end. And I'm pretty sure I caught something that the mom's boyfriend said to the daughter when she was older that the daughter didn't fully get. I could be wrong, but....

Giving this one a 3.5 just for the slower pace.

*Thank you to Union Square and Netgalley for the gifted copy

I actually would put this book around a 3.5 but rounded up because I did enjoy it. I couldn't put it down, and I love it when a book has you hooked like that. The twist, though. I just can't put into words. Part of me feels it's far-fetched. Another part of me thinks it's pure genius because you'd never come to that conclusion. I kind of feel at a loss, like I've been robbed of this super shocking spectacular ending. All round, a good read.
