Writing is juvenile.basically a romance novel with a mystery mixed in, others are much better at this.
I've always found it interesting how these books can follow two stories and still be so easily read. It's not confusing or bogged down. Savich and Sherlock are dealing with the death of a twenty year old placed at the Lincoln Memorial. griffin is teamed up with Sheriff Dix Noble and Agent Ruth Noble to figure out who was in Delsey's house. I have always liked Savich and Sherlock, their relationship is very believable and normal (well considering they are FBI Agents.) Griffin is a newer character to the series, but I'm already starting to like him. All of Coulter's characters are well developed and enjoyable to read about.
The two cases that you go back and forth between in this book are interesting. I enjoyed the flipping between because you never really got bored with one storyline. As I was reading I had guessed a few of the smaller details in the cases, but both cases left me wondering until the end. But then I don't really try to figure them out before your supposed to know, cause then what is the point of finishing the book. This is a nice Suspense Thriller, it doesn't hurt that it has all kinds of nice looking FBI Agents in it.

I'm not sure if it's me or this series that's getting old and tired, but I did not enjoy this book as much as past Coulter FBI books. It was somewhat entertaining and a quick read; I just didn't feel that connected to the characters, even Sherlock and Savich came across as blah. I never felt like Delsey was in any real danger (no reason to believe it since, according to this book, all gang members, even the leaders, are complete idiots) and, in the second story line, I figured if Peter couldn't figure out what was happening after his two friends died and plan accordingly, then he deserved what he got. It all seemed very contrived and, in some places, forced. The chemistry was lacking, there really wasn't a compelling story, and all of the bad guys were morons (I prefer my criminals to be smart). Maybe two stars is a little generous.
Heavier on the 'romance' than the suspense. And the old "they are shooting at me but all I can think about is the beautiful dea agent that I just met". Along with "she is tough as nails" but "i need to keep her safe".
Catherine Coulter always writes a well-paced crime thriller. This book, like others in the series, features two separate mysteries that teams of detectives are working to solve. In one, an FBI agent's sister returned home from a party only to be attacked in her apartment. Untangling what's really going on in her small college music town turns out to be quite a mess. In the other mystery, a body is found at the Lincoln Memorial with no clues about the killer. Coulter's pacing and storytelling is always topnotch and I always enjoy seeing how Savich and Sherlock will untangle the latest mess!
I needed a break after a book discussion title... and this provided a nice break. I am getting a bit tired of this series, though. It will be interesting to see if the spinoff is much different.
FBI Special Agent Griffin Hammersmith, last seen in Backfire, has been recruited by Dillon Savich to join his unit in Washington, D.C. Savich sees something special in Hammersmith, an almost preternatural instinct for tracking criminals.
While on his way to D.C., Hammersmith plans to visit his sister, Delsey, a student at Stanislaus School of Music in Maestro, Virginia. Before he arrives, he gets a phone call that Delsey was found naked, unconscious, and covered with blood after a wild party. The blood isn't hers—so who does it belong to?
Meanwhile, back in D.C., Savich and Sherlock have their hands full when the grandson of former chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank is found murdered, every bone in his body broken, and frozen at the foot of the Lincoln Memorial.
Was Savich right—is Griffin gifted with a unique ability to "see" how criminals think? And will he figure out who was behind the attempt on Delsey's life—before it's too late?
Another great book in this series. Really enjoyed it.

LOVED it!!! I always love reading the adventures of Savich and Sherlock and Bomb Shell certainly lived up to my expectations! I find that I can narrow things down to a couple of characters but the plot always takes a twist to keep you guessing. I wondered if this story would incorporate the cave from the previous book and I was excited to learn the roll it played. Love it, would totally recommend it and I am looking forward to reading the new series that collaborate with J T Ellison!
Another good FBI series by Coulter. It was enjoyable.
