I cannot recommend this book enough. It's eye-opening, emotional and heart felt. I was hooked from the start and completely fell in love with Nuri. I know this is fictional, although based on the author's real experiences, but it felt so real for me as a reader. And the situation Nuri and his loved ones found themselves in, and the journey to safety they had to undertake, really broke my heart.

This book was so creative and so well written. I loved reading this one. The movement from present to past in each chapter was beautiful and the whole book, ironically, painted a beautiful picture of the lives of these people in 2015. So good. Definitely recommend.

Amazing book! The plot was well thought out and it gave a very sympathetic approach towards refugees and imigration which we don’t often see in the media. All The characters were loveable and the time jumps were done well.

It’s a heart breaking story of love and loss and the refugee experience. I found shelf unable to put the book down and wanting to continue reading.
It humanises the migrant experience and delves into the story of Nuri and Arfa, and their individual struggles, while trying to rebuild a life for themselves away from Aleppo.
Although I thoroughly enjoy this book, the ending felt abrupt to me. It felt that the last chapter could have been a little more flushed out.
