No. Not this. Please. (IYKYK)
Will M Watt is excellent. But not enough to make this a book worth recommending. He is an excellently talented narrator. He is so so so good at bring authenticity, sensuality and tension to the accents, voices and dialogue and scenes. He even has different accents for the other characters. If not weren’t for this narrator’s talented performance, I would have DNFed or given it 1.25*.
I’m deeply annoyed with how this was produced. The producer should have noticed the numerous flaws of pronunciations and accent throughout the POV by Kylie Stewart.
Kylie S narrates Belles POV (over 3/4 of the chapters) and she makes many mistakes with her accent.
- it fluctuates continuously with oddities like rhyming massage with sausage, and too frequently slips into South African accent.
- mispronounced the dozen uses of French and Italian words. (Cecconi’s was all soft Ss while Sancerre was ‘sun- keh -reh’)
- mispronounced many London locations (Connaught doesn’t end with a short vowel and it doesn’t rhyme with cannot)
- the lack of variation in her take on the men’s voices. You can barely distinguish cal and Rafe in one scene when they are each talking to Belle.
But the big kicker is the excessive volume of inner narrative. It really kills the momentum. Even in a big emotional scene with her best friend after fall with a parent. And then again right after. While have ten sentences when half one will do. And the cloched writing about unconditional love, religion, and age gap. Blergh.
I wanted to enjoy this. I stopped caring after the half way mark.

If you’re not wanting Catholic guilt, I’d avoid this. It’s a huge plot point and honestly, it kind of drags the story down to some degree.

Very sexy, loved it! Sometimes a bit too heavy on the religion side of things

I've definitely read worse. I marked this as DNF originally because the characters reflection on Catholic guilt was so heavy handed and repetitive. It just didn't feel like characters with thoughts like that would act that way most of the time. I think I'm not into the this kind of angst so I'm not the target audience. I also don't have a priest or multiple partners kink but I did end up finiahing the book to see how they handled the ending. Feels like it had the potential to be really insightful but fumbled the execution there and mostly just knocked me out of the mood over and over.
