Its a slow start but i found it entertaining getting to know some of the eccentric characters in the neighbourhood both as children and their adult counterparts.

I enjoy how the characters are interwoven into the mysterious events and by the midway point the plot widens up quite nicely. It was pretty hard to put down even though its mostly story set up.

One thing that put me off a smidge is the time hopping but i get the sense that this isnt arbitrary but more for foreshadowing and character development. I just gave up tracking the dates. Its a me thing.

Certain events in the plot just seem pretty random and only to drive the story forward..but its hard to judge if theres a logical explanation or if its just him playing connect the dots with the plot.

I read it in a day, which is usually a good sign for me. Cant wait to sink my teeth into Vol 2.

If ever there was an example of the power of manga as a narrative medium, this is it. What a beautifully illustrated, moving story. Part nostalgia trip, part mystery, part slice of life, it all comes together to create a truly memorable story that I found myself strongly gripped by. Honestly, if manga isn't normally up your alley, do yourself a favor and give this a try. Truly incredible.

This is the best manga, borderline best fictional book I have ever read. I’m not just talking about this volume but the ENTIRE damn series. It’s the closest thing we have gotten to perfection in writing
