I read this because of the musical and was a little disappointed because the ending is very different. Jeremy is about the same character-wise but the SQUIP isn't as interesting. The ending felt rushed and unsatisfying. If you are a fan of the musical and looking for more then you might be disappointed because this is very short and not nearly as interesting, at least not with its lack of any real resolution.

An unusual plot. I liked the idea but felt like Vizzini didn't push it to its limit. A fun read but I wasn't wowed by it.

This book was good, don't get me wrong. But I got invested in the musical before I read this, so, my interpretation was that the SQUIP was evil and will take over the world. And I was just waiting for the SQUIP to turn and reveals real motives.
Instead I get an unbearably embarrassing confession from Jeremy and an afro haired Michael that was mentioned almost 5 times.
But, the concept is definitely interesting, and the way it turned out was nice. When Michael showed up in the end, I was glad that he had a little purpose other than mentioning 'script'.
A bit disappointing, but I enjoyed it. Most of it at least.

R.I.P. Ned Vizzini: you were gone before your time. Be More Chill is classic Vizzini with a science fiction twist. This is a world where you can swallow a supercomputer and be instructed in the ways of coolness. A sort of high school, matrix-y type concept that may have needed to be flushed out more, but was entertaining nonetheless.
