This is a pretty intense read. Serious trigger warnings for domestic violence and rape. The fear and tension radiate from the page. I could feel myself tensing up and drawing in as I read it. I was on the edge with the characters, waiting for the blows to fall.

The story moves back and forth through time with three generations. Cycles of violence and the strength of women and their love for each other. It opens with Kitty's death and then we go back to her youth in the 50's, the youth of her neices and her great nieces today. The violence they find while looking for love.

I'll definitely be reading more Duffy in the future but right now I need to go read something comforting and violence free.

Wow. Just wow. This book is so wonderful and complex with a cast of characters so powerful! Its resilient and strong, brave women are the main focus, resulting in a powerful, heartbreaking story of survival, Prejudice, sisterhood, family and above all, love.
