I think I found this book because someone said Gay was Faulknerian, but he's even more Lovecraftian. There are even rat sounds in the walls!

This book was a little messy, but I though that suited its subject. Ghost stories are messy.

I look forward to reading more of his work.

By the end I was having serious 'The Turn of the Screw' flashbacks - I had no fucking clue what was going on.
Some really great moments but methinks William Gay wouldn't have wanted this published, perhaps his frustrated disembodied spirit is wreaking havoc on some farmhouse in Tennessee.

I didn’t realize this was found and published after the author’s death, so I can’t fault him for the book feeling unfinished.  Has some great southern gothic, though.

A little disappointing, started off strong but as a horror fan it wasn't nearly as scary or chilling as i' d hoped or expected. 2 star is maybe a little harsh but I just can't get excited about it.
