Thank you to I.V. Marie and HarperCollins UK Audio / Electric Monkey for giving me access to this book in exchange for an honest review.
Immortal Consequences was one of my most anticipated reads this year, and oh my GOD, it did not disappoint. For a debut, this is an absolute powerhouse! A complex, layered plot that keeps you hooked, and a cast so vividly drawn and larger-than-life you can’t help but be obsessed. Every twist, every interaction crackles with intensity. This isn’t just a story you read, it’s one you devour, breathe in, and get totally lost in. I’m still reeling from how good this was.

“Find me. Wherever you are, wherever we end up, don’t stop looking for me.”
From the moment I started reading this book I knew it was going to become a 5 star read. I simply knew it. And I wasn’t wrong. If there’s something a book MUST have for me to give it a 5 star rating is a good ensemble of characters. Found family trope? Absolute perfection in every sense of the word.
There is something else about this book that absolutely blew my mind and it is the ending. What even!! I couldn’t have guessed that was the direction we were heading for at the beginning. I knew something would be up since we were focusing on a large group of characters and the competition promises “one single winner”, so I was expecting some kind of THG poisonous berries act. I won’t say much about it, but it was brilliantly executed by the author.
As for the characters, all six of them were a delight to read. I would’ve loved to have read more of their backstory, but I understand that is something the characters themselves are not keen on discussing, so it makes sense that us as readers are somewhat kept in the dark. I’m sure next book will bring some of their stories to light.
Hurts to say but this book is what ‘Phantasma’ promised to be. Deadly trials, rivals to lovers, afterlife… yeah, this book delivered.

I’m honestly really disappointed with this ngl. I had seen tons of promotional content for it, and it was picked up by a big book box, so I bad hope that it would be good. Unfortunately, this just fell very flat for me. I can totally see people enjoying it, but I found the world and the characters to be underwhelming.
The world building was just nonexistent. So many things were just brushed over with no further explanation or exploration. There’s a student that asks a question in class and the response is “we don’t know,” and I feel like perfectly summarizes how everything else in this story went. It was ambitious to include six povs as well. It didn’t work for me, sadly. None of the characters felt unique or fully fleshed out. They’re also all supposed to be old—like some of them are centuries old—but they act so agonizingly young. Perpetually trapped as 18 year olds. They were very trope heavy, and the relationships between them went from zero to one hundred way too fast. I just couldn’t find it in myself to care for them, especially when the chapters were so short. I got whiplash from going back and forth over and over again.
The villains once again felt so flat. Copy and paste from Disney movies almost. Predictable and underwhelming. Also the monologue? The whole “ah yes you caught me! Let me explain everything” stuff made me want to facepalm.
Overall just a bleh read for me.
