One of the most interesting things, to me, about this great history, is the hilarious string of non-sequiturs that build a perfect picture of the environment, culture and setting for this wonderful band to form. While each member provides their individual snapshot, it all comes together to paint a fascinating picture of London in the 70's.

I'm sure I'll be coming back to this one again and again.

The audio book is fantastic with the band narrating it themselves. To me Madness always captured the essence of the working class experience when I was growing up, and their voices and the way they tell the tales of their youth reinforces this. Most of them were right rogues in their younger days, but what comes through more than anything is a warmth and vulnerability of young men not quite sure where they are going but wanting to go somewhere.
