Read 5/3-5/5, over 1/3 in - just couldn't get into it, read some reviews and nothing caught my attention.  I really don't like the overtones of religion.

I don't know if there is a better book to read in 2020. Made me incredibly sad and hopeful, scared and determined. A phenomenal book.

road trip audiobook. my first Octavia Butler book and I really liked it. I will certainly read more of her books. I would like to see what happens with Earthseed and Lauren. The narration by Ms Thigpen was excellent. Her voice was pleasant and easy to listen to. It was interesting to contemplate how the private cities that offered jobs and protection were so similar to the old "company towns" of the 19th and 20th Centuries. It was also easy to see how they could be appealing and then morph. The problems with drugs, poverty and lawlessness that Ms Butler described is eerily too close for comfort in life today. the 2023 of the book is not too far away from the 2023 of now.
