This dystopia is bleak. Like I've heard people say The Road by Cormac McCarthy was bleak and depressing, which it is, but not as much as this novel. But...it does get better.

idk, like this portrays a dark future filled with violence and despicable human acts. But it also shows hope in such a world.

The Earthseed and religious aspects of it all could have been left out in my opinion. There was plenty of humanity in the book without all the philosophizing.

So, I liked the setting, the audacious speculation, the actual plot, but not so much the rest of it.

I'm usually not a fan of dystopian books, but this one is stunning.

I strongly dislike all of the characters. I was listening to the audiobook, I'll try again reading the physical book instead of audiobook. I'm thinking the audiobook pace and book pace combined was too slow for me. I also was trying to figure out what the point is and it felt like they were never getting to it.

Reading this book in the year before its action takes place is both troubling and validating.
