i watched the movie years ago because i saw a screen cap and thought the art was so intriguing and absolutely loved it, when i found out it was a graphic novel i wanted it ever since but it was never available at any libraries thankfully hunter gave me the worlds best christmas gift and viola i’ve now read the book. it lived up to the movie and then some, not only is it very timely but also makes so much more sense after investing time into learning about the world outside of america. it would read just as well without the illustrations but they are so well done and powerful AH it just works so well. i’m very thankful for this book :0)
Graphic: Forced institutionalization, Genocide, Mental illness, and Police brutality
Moderate: Body shaming, Gun violence, Islamophobia, Misogyny, Racism, and Violence
Minor: Sexual assault
although a lot of sensitive ground is covered it’s very well done and very aligned with Marjane’s perspective
