I wanted to care for Marie and her fate, but I found myself completely indifferent, and couldn't get into it.

I really loved parts of this book, but then there were 50 pages stretches that I didn’t enjoy at all.

An interesting story, but I don't think the unique writing style really worked with the plot.

Man I just did not give a shit. It was a slog. And you’d think that lesbian nun would be my thing!

This book had the great misfortune of being started at the end of the biggest reading high of my life and the beginning of the biggest reading slump of my life, which is not fault of the book itself, but did mean that it technically took me 11 months to read 270 pages. Obviously I put the book down for quite a long time and read other things, so it didn’t actually take that long but the idea is the same. Overall, however, once I actually got myself to read this book I did really enjoy it. I love lauren groff’s writing style and although this book is definitely not the most historically accurate (I didn’t even realize Marie was a real person until like the last few pages lol) I really enjoyed the view of medieval life and womanhood it gave the reader.

There were a couple parts that I found interesting. But I mostly had no idea what was going on or who was who.
