Mika is one of the best Morally Grey, Ex-Assasin FMC I have ever read. This has one of my favorite I guess you would say tropes, with a gang of characters that are thrown together to complete a mission. There is banter, there is laughter and romance, there is betrayal and grief. But at the end of the day, they are a family. Just Love *Chef's Kiss*.

The slow-burn tension between Riley and Mika is insane, yet so worth it. We are left with a bit of a cliffhanger, So I need the second, Now!

I don't even know where to start, there are just so many things I want to say about this book! To start - the world-building was so well done, I want to explore more of it! The map and pronunciation guide were huge helps. Mika is an amazing FMC, and despite her position in society, she's got a fire in her that just can't be put out. The group she ends up with ends up being more of an odd family instead of simply a rag tag crew of misfits and discarded. But Mika and Riley - now that's some tension you could cut with a knife. There are moments that will have you holding your breath, and others that will have you giggling or tearing up a little. Moody really knows how to take you through a wild ride of emotions. At times, I just wanted to scream at the characters or situation they found themselves in, but I couldn't stop reading. There are a few twists, so don't go in thinking you'll know what's going to happen next. The biggest disappointment was reaching the end and having to wait for book two.

I've been feeling ALL OF THE FEELS in the 24 hours that took me to DEVOUR this book. The story, the characters, their chemistry is absolutely on point! I can't believe this is R.Moody's debut work, the world is beautifully explained, we get to know the characters rather quickly and in the same way we fall in love with them.
Let me warn you, you're going to cry HARD, also you're going to be scared for your favorite characters, but most of all you're going to laugh and giggle at the slow burn and chemistry of the MCs.
That ending is evil and cruel and literally can't wait for book 2.

Holy world building! I honestly cannot believe that this book had that much world building and still managed to provide us with an absolute whopper of a story, proving to be one of the best fantasy reads I’ve read this year.
The entire character pool was so diverse and complex that I was so invested in them all in probably would have kept reading even if there was zero plot, but there absolutely was not zero plot!!
I loved Mika’s journey from assassin to heroine and I LOVED her and Riley together, the tension, the banter between them, just UGH

Loved it. Retired assassin who is still very stabby when needed, found family bunch of misfits on the road together on a rescue mission, a slow burn steamy romance, and a ton of feminine rage.
Loved the worldbuilding around the gifts, the characters are brilliant, diverse and I loved their personalities and banter.
This has great action, tension, and some heart wrenching moments.
So much happens in those last few chapters and the ending?!? I can not wait for book 2! Need more of Mika and Riley.
