First, thank you so much to R. Moody for allowing me the opportunity to ARC read your debut novel!

Null & Void is a dark fantasy romance with:

Stabby FMC
Cinnamon Roll MMC
Hate to Love
Found Family
Feminine Rage
Diverse Rep

While I enjoyed reading the book overall, I had a hard time getting into this one. The first part of the book focuses on the quest to rescue a missing princess. Here is where we are introduced to the world building (shoutout to the glossary). While there was a lot of detail, the world building was still a tad bit confusing for me.

The last 25% of the book was, in my opinion, the best part. It holds the political intrigue and the darkness of the world. I felt like this part was a bit rushed, and I definitely wanted MORE.

I’ll admit, when I first got this book and saw the glossary, I was intimidated. I’m dyslexic so I thought it was going to be so much harder for me to read a book that used words that were new. However, once I started reading it was really easy.

Honestly, I loved this Romantasy book. The world building and characters are amazing. The author gives us great details to envision her world. Some spots of the book do drag a little due to too much detail, however this book is definitely worth the read. Not only is it captivating, but it leaves us with a massive cliff hanger.

The plots and twists in this book absolutely baffled me at points and even caused me to become enraged. Also this book does have some scenes that might be upsetting so please read the triggers before reading. All in all, I really enjoyed this book and definitely recommend it!

I just finished this book and WOAH! It took me a bit longer than I wanted due to life, but everytime I could pick this book up I did! It was soooooo intense, complicated, detailed, and just so amazing. The world building, magic, politics, and different cultures were sooo in depth yet super easy to understand and super ingrained into the story. I loved learning details about each type of culture, the nulls, patrons of the divine, magic abilities, etc. It all felt so new and exciting! The mystery and plot twists had me curling my toes with anticipation, I was always waiting for the other shoe to drop, yet never expected the twists that happened.

And the character development was amazing!! People I swore I’d hate, I fell in love with and felt my heart squeezing for their stories and the connections and found family was divine! I loved the plot progression and different bumps and felt every emotion imaginable. Moody did an executional job at keeping me engaged and excited esp since I’ve been in a major slump this summer and I absolutely cannot wait for her next book! 12/10 recommend! Absolutely phenomenal book!

Mika has to be one of the darkest, complex, traumatized female character I have read about in a long time. Saying that she’s “been through it” would be an understatement. Friends, before reading this story please make sure to read trigger/content warnings. This is a dark romantic fantasy!

The world that Moody built for us has layers, and does a good job at make sure we’re reminded of where we are at. What characters are around and such. I think the world building in this was really creative! The family that were introduced to and go along this journey with is a family I would want to be apart of. You have Beans, who is just the big teddy bear of the group but also fiercely protective. Bitty was such a “innocent” light break to some of these really heavy parts. Riley is in fact a cinnamon roll (that needs therapy) and the romance between him and Mika was tugging and pulling at my heart. These two are a slow ass burn. And….jfc to that ending….like ride (😉)

I will say there were some parts that felt rushed through, and then there were parts that were repetitive. It was a lot of traveling, eating, sparring, repeat. But that is the small bit that I would say I didn’t like. And this story was so good that it didn’t bother me that much. This story is dark, beautiful, sad and magical. I love the interpretation of female rage and how that comes out toward the end - like holy fuck the creativity.

Oh my, all I gotta say is if you like action and fighting evil men. This is the book. I feel in love with all the characters in this book. But trigger warning, please read it.

It's so detailed, descriptive, and adventurous. It's a story about people that have special powers and some that are bull and void. Meaning they don't feel the pull of power. It's crazy what going on in this book. Like wow. I didn't expect half of what I was reading and didn't expect that ending. I don't want to say anymore because I don't want to ruin the book for people! Ugh I want book 2 already. I have to know what happens.

I really enjoyed Null & Void. I won’t lie, it did take me a little bit to get into it (like 15-20% or so), but once I did, I didn’t want to put it down! Mika is just a smidge irritating at the very beginning, but once we start to really dive into her character as she begins her journey with Beans, Tovi, and Riley (and eventually Bitty), her character became much more likable. I really loved Riley as well. He was a fun character and I enjoyed getting to see him open up to Mika more and more as the story went on. His banter with Mika was also pretty enjoyable, and don’t even get me started on the nickname…I just love it.

I thought the world building and magic system were really cool, and I can’t wait to explore more in the next book. After that ending, I need the next book immediately…like, yesterday.

Thank you R. Moody for the ARC of Null & Void. All opinions are my own.

Null & Void is one of those reads that sits with you for a long time after you've finished. It's an absolutely stunning fantasy tale, with simmering tension, plot twists,  world building that is intriguing and well thought out and characters that come alive on the page. The last 40 or so pages is utter mayhem (in an amazing way) and will leave you salivating for the next instalment.

If you're after:

🟣 bamf female lead
🟣 forced proximity
🟣 banter
🟣 hidden identity
🟣 hate to love
🟣 found family
🟣 one bed
🟣 touch her and die (but she can look after herself...)
🟣 feminine rage... So. Much. Rage

then this is definitely the book for you! Just check out the TW before diving in - but when you do, be prepared for full immersion and not surfacing until it's finished!
